Sandra Stankrauff Peter passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Mecosta, Michigan on Sunday, June 3, 2018. She was 76.

Mrs. Peter was born on December 10, 1941 in Detroit to her parents, Russell and Irene Stankrauff. She grew-up in Grosse Pointe, MI and attended Central Michigan University. She graduated in 1963 with a degree in Elementary Education and was an active member of the Tri-Sigma sorority at CMU and as alumni.

She married Stephen Peter in 1963 and moved to Lansing, MI. She began her teaching career in Grand Ledge where she taught in the elementary school. Later, Mrs. Peter worked with special needs children (deaf, blind, autistic) and then inner city youth who were in trouble with the law. She retired out of Camp Highfields after 30 plus years of teaching. Additionally she volunteered her time weekly at the Morton Township Public Library tutoring at risk kids.

Known for her bubbly personality and sense of humor. Mrs. Peter has lived in the Mecosta area for more than 20 years. She was deeply devoted to her faith and an active member of the Sylvester Community Church congregation.

Mrs. Peter is survived by two daughters Karen Peter Russell, son-in law Steven Russell; and Kristyne Peter, son-in-law, Paul Williams and three grandchildren: Adam, Alex, and Lucas. She is preceded in death by her husband Stephen.

There will be viewing at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon from 2 - 4 PM and from 6 8 PM in the evening. Sylvester Community Church will be hosting the funeral for Sandy Peter at 11 AM on Friday, June 8 with viewing from 10 11 AM at the Church.
