Obituary

Ruth A. Stout, age 84 of Stanwood, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Royal View Retirement Community in Mecosta. She was born December 18, 1933 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Albert and Alma (Ulrich) Arndt. Ruth was a 1952 graduate from the Big Rapids High School. She married Thane Stout on April 18, 1958 in Big Rapids and together they made their home and raised their family in Stanwood. Ruth supported her children and grandchildren by attending their school activities and sporting events. She was a lifetime member of the Northland United Methodist Church, where she was active in various committees/boards and Sunday School. Ruth enjoyed collecting teddy bears, working in her flower garden, and baking pies. She was also a former member of the Red Hat Society. Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Jacquelyn (Clarke) Macy of Saline, Cynthia (Donald) Force of Howard City, and Kathryn (Michael) Lake of Stanwood; five grandchildren, Christopher Macy, Clayton (Shannon) Macy, Amy (fianc Brandon Parker) Force, Stacy (Eric) Sours, and Andrew Lake; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Pierce; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Donald Butcher; husband of nearly 58 years, Thane Stout; and sister, Betty LaPreze Oliver. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood with Pastor Gary Bondarenko officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 6th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to the service at the Church on Tuesday. Ruth will be laid to rest at Stanwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruths name to the Northland United Methodist Church.
