Ruth Ellen McClurg, born January 24, 1916, in Detroit to Leonard and Nina Warren Tackabury, quite surprised perhaps even herself on December 24, 2015, Christmas Eve afternoon, when, after a very brief hospitalization, she passed across the mysterious space between life on this earth and the eternal one shed been praying forexactly one month from her 100th birthday. Ruth earned a B.A. in Business Administration from Wayne State in 1937 and worked for S. S. Kresge before marrying Richard Harvey McClurg, a structural engineer. They lived in Detroit, Orchard Lake, and Lovells in Michigan, and Yalaha in Florida. In 2004 she moved to Big Rapids.

She "lived and breathed playing bridge," had been a fabulous ballroom dancer, and baked "dreamy, goopy things." In her later years she completed three daily crossword puzzles, and "was addicted to television gameshows, One Life to Live, and desserts." Ruth is survived by daughter Mikki / Nancy (Robert) Garrels, of Big Rapids, and son Richard, Jr. (Christine Adams) of Seattle; grandchildren Trinja Henrickson, Abraham (Ashlyn) McClurg, Kate (Dave) Anderson, Julia (Lars) Borgeson, Corianna Garrels, Patrick (Molly McDonald) McAdams, and Emma McAdams; and great-grandchildren August and Ruby Henrickson, Brune Fuller, Daliah and Lucas Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, sister Helen, and granddaughter Jenni. The family welcomes you to a simple celebration service on Saturday, January 16, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 726 Fuller, Big Rapids.
