Ruth D. Johnson, age 96 of Remus/Barryton, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at home. She was born on December 8, 1919 in Deerfield Twp., Isabella Co., MI to Robert and Edith "Elenore" (Frees) Craven. She married George Johnson on January 20, 1940 and they made their home and raised their family in the area their entire lives. Ruth was a hard worker often working two jobs. She enjoyed raising chickens and hogs into her early 80s. Ruth always had pets, vegetable and flower gardens, mowed her own lawn and was excellent at cards. Ruth is survived by her children: Shirley Pitts of Coldwater, Gladys Shanteau of Mt. Pleasant, Betty (Bob) Tice of Barryton/FL, Mary Vielhaber of Remus, William (Gail) Johnson of Remus; daughter-in-law Lou Snyder; sister-in-law Mary Craven; 26 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 35 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and endeared friends who will continue to hold their memories close to their hearts. Ruth was preceded in death by her son Jim; husband George; grandson Robert Mortensen; great-grandson Corey Pitts and 9 siblings. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Barryton Church of Christ with Pastor Rick Lippert officiating. The family will greet friends on Friday, December 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton and one hour prior to services at the church where she was a member since the late 50s.
