Ruth A. Henderson, 95, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at The Brook Assisted Living Home of Big Rapids.
Ruth was born April 30, 1930, in Chase, Michigan to Bernhart (Ben) and Ellen Mae (Armstrong) Brocker. She attended Chase School through 10th grade, then moved to Reed City to complete her last two years and graduated from Reed City High School in 1948. Her girlfriend, Eunice, introduced Ruth to her brother, Daniel N. Henderson, newly home from WWII. Ruth and Dan married September 25, 1949.
Ruth worked at the Osceola County Courthouse from 1948 to 1950. After marriage to Dan, she taught Sunday School and was church clerk and financial secretary for many years. She was known in the area as an excellent seamstress, having sewn many wedding and bridesmaids dresses, clothes for her girls, and altered garments for many people. The family all agree that she was mother extraordinaire and a fun grandma.
Ruth is survived by two daughters: Judy (Larry) Rolston of Coral and Elaine Kamptner of Rodney; son-in-law: Jerry Jeffery; grandchildren: Jodi (Chris) Yardman, Brian (Becky) Rolston, Nancy (Michael) Dore, Josh (Michell) Kamptner; 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Elenore (Allen) Blanchard of Chase and Lois (Keith) Rolston of Reed City; her husband: Dan Henderson; daughter: Carolyn Henderson Jeffrey Vriezelaar; sons-in-law: Don Vriezelaar and Otto Kamptner; and grandsons: Daniel and Job Jeffery.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, 11:00 AM. at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Big Rapids. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, January 29, 2026, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Ruth requested that a memorial contribution be made to Home Hospice of Michigan, her missionary granddaughter, Nancy Dore and family (checks may be written to Ethnos 360, indicated for Dore family), or a church of your choice.
