Russell C. Crawford, age 78 of Rodney, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011. He was born February 4, 1933 in Martiny Township the son of Theodore and Alice (Hooker) Crawford. Russell graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1952. He married the former Leona R. Kipp on January 18, 1958 in Big Rapids. Together they made their home on the farm in Rodney where they worked and lived their entire lives. Russell owned and operated Crawford's Farm Market in Big Rapids for 20 years. They were known throughout the area for their delicious homemade cider and donuts and their own farm fresh produce. Russell is survived by a son, Mark (Judith) Crawford of Hudsonville; 2 daughters, Barbara (Randy) Frost of DeWitt, Michelle (Paul) Wright of Rodney; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Crawford, a son Scott Crawford and a sister Betty Mull. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend David Westover officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, March 15th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mecosta County Commission on aging and be directed to "Meals-on-Wheels" or the "R.S.V.P." program.
