Russel Albert Osburn, age 91 of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 26, 1923 to Floyd and Nellie (Shaw) Osburn in Grant, Michigan. Russel served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 from Company C 594th Engineers Boat & Shore Regiment. Russel married Luella A. Wiltenburg on March 15, 1946, in Conklin, MI. He was a carpenter and made his living building homes. In 1951 Luella's parents, Barney and Lillie Wiltenburg, along with son-in-law Russel, purchased a hardware store in Big Rapids and named it State Street Hardware. After Barney passed away, Russel and Lillie ran the store; Russel's daughter Joyce joined the family business in 1977 and his son Ernest joined in 1984. State Street Hardware continues to be proudly family-owned and operated. Russel is survived by his loving wife of nearly 69 years of marriage, Luella, his children; Joyce Osburn, Wanda (Michael) Dunn and Ernest (Susan) Osburn all of Big Rapids; special sister-in-law, Regina (David) Hanninen of Newaygo; son-in-law, Don Ghent; grandchildren, Scott Dunn, Nicole Dunn, Todd Hanninen, Michelle (James) Nagel, Tyler (Roxana) Osburn, Tiffany Osburn and Trent Osburn; great-grandchildren, Kyle Nagel, Katelyn Nagel, McKinley Hanninen and Easton Hanninen; sister, Helen Roeters of Grant; brother, Thomas Osburn of Twin Lakes; sister-in-law, Angie Osburn; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teri Lynn Ghent; brothers, Edward Osburn, Earl Osburn, Rollo Osburn, Harry Osburn and James Osburn; and sister Hazel White.
