Roy "Jay" Birchfield Jr. age 86 of Jehnsen Lake, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 12, 2013 at his home. He was born March 11, 1927 in Kennett, Missouri the son of Roy and Anna (Stockton) Birchfield Sr. Jay was honorably discharged from the United States Navy serving as a Seabee in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Joann Gunckel of Barryton on November 26, 1943 and they made their home in Whitmore Lake. Jay was a plumber by trade; following his retirement in 1970 the couple moved to Jehnsen Lake in Mecosta County. Jay was a devoted member of the Barryton Church of God. Following the loss of his first wife, Joann, Jay married his dear friend Virginia Loos on October 29, 2005 and they enjoyed a blessed marriage. Jay is survived by his wife, Virginia; two sons, LeRoy Birchfield of Ohio, Larry (Susan) Birchfield of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren; seven grandchildren; adopted daughter, Carol (Russ) Earle and adopted son-in-law, Roger Eichenberg all of Barryton. Besides his parents and first wife Joann, Jay was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Birchfield, a sister, Lorene Gorum and adopted daughter, Diane Eichenberg. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Barryton Church of God. with Pastor John Mellish and Pastor Gary Bryan officiating. Visitations will be held at the Church of God on Wednesday, October 16th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Jay will be buried at Flake Cemetery in Barryton. Memorial contributions in Jay's memory may be made to the Barryton Church of God.
