Ronald L. Selfridge of Chippewa Lake, age 76, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015. He was born November 2, 1938 in Lansing, son of Howard and Eleanor (Nicolai) Selfridge. Ron graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1958 and was a member of their three-time state championship cross country team. The 1956 team was inducted into the Lansing Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. Ron was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1961. He married Alice Fowler on August 3, 1963. They made their homes in Flint and Lansing, later moving to rural Ionia where they raised their family. Ron worked as an electrical salesman for Michigan Electric, Michigan Brass, and Medler Electric. After retiring, Ron and Alice moved to Chippewa Lake. Ron loved life on the lake including fishing and boating; he had a keen eye and artistic appreciation for Nature in his photography. Ron was known for his outgoing personality, great sense of humor, and generous spirit. He was a man of "small world" experiences, and people he met were never strangers for long. He cherished his family and considered friends as extended family. Ron served as a Chippewa Township Trustee and was a devout member of the Reed City Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by his beloved wife Alice of Chippewa Lake; three children, Christine (Sam) Simonetta of Deerton, MI, Cindy (Loren) Bryant of Mitchell, SD, Kevin Selfridge of Chino Hills, CA; four grandchildren, Danielle, Cassi, Amanda, and Sierra Selfridge, and several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Selfridge, and special cousin Larry Selfridge. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26 at the Reed City Church of the Nazarene (220th Patterson Ave.) with Pastor Chris DeMott officiating. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, March 25 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm also at the church. Memorial contributions in Ron's name may be made to the Reed City Church of the Nazarene where they will be directed to Youth Programs and the Shepherd's Table.
