Obituary

Ronald "Ron" D. Curtis, age 86 of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of Wednesday, May 12, 2021. He was welcomed to heaven with his guitar in hand, by his parents, George and Mabel (Enyart) Curtis; brothers, Clyde (Geri) and Robert Curtis; sisters, Marge (Harold) Weeks, Wilma (Ed) Fenton, Neva (Ford) Fenton, Barbara (Frank) Carroll, and Carrol (Wayne) Hull, Colin Drake; as well as his stepfather, Pastor Henry Sheler. He was also welcomed in Heaven by Lowella and Cloyce Miller, as well as Gerald Lenon, and Jeane Lenon.He was born on the family farm in Barryton on September 3, 1934, one of ten children. On September 30, 1955, he married the love of his life, Geraldine "Gerry" Lenon in Big Rapids, where they raised their family. Ron and Gerry were a talented team. Together they owned and operated multiple businesses: Advance Appliance Sales and Service as well as Curtis & Curtis Construction.Ron always had a great love of music, and had the wonderful gift to share it with others. He played numerous events at the Morley and Mecosta VFWs, weddings, and for friends and family alike. He joined a band with his daughter, Val, called the Dew Drops. Later when given the opportunity, Ron and Gerry wrote and directed the play, "Sweet Country", a tribute to Patsy Cline. Sweet Country was also the name of the second band Ron formed. It was this band that was so successful as they hosted a talent show which was entered by 20 bands to open for Brooks and Dunn at the fair.Ron was loved by many. His memory will live on through his loving wife of 65 years, Gerry, and the beautiful family they created: their son Randy Curtis, his wife Lynda and their children, Shelli (Todd), Russ (Becky), and Kim (Cory); their son Jim Curtis, his wife Becky, and their children Chana (Ron), Brian (Jen), Brad, Michael (Crystal), and Kaylyn (Kyle); their daughter Val Casterline, her husband Dave, their children Matt (Abby), and Chris (Alexis); their daughter Pam Nelson, her husband David and their children, Derek, Sarah, Alyssa (Parker), and Alex; as well as 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Drake, and Bev (Clois) Bowman; his in-laws, Betty (Don) Nelson, Linda (Jim) Cooley, Larry (Mary Ann) Lenon, Dan Lenon, and Connie (Jan) Settlemyer; one aunt, Ruth Bandfield; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.OUTDOOR Funeral Services will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the funeral (from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) outside at the funeral home. A recording of the service will be linked down below. Ron will be laid to rest at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids.
