Ronald J. Camilleri, age 73 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Metro Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born November 27, 1938 in Detroit, the son of Joseph and Frieda Camilleri. Ron graduated from Dearborn High School and enlisted in the Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1959. Ron moved back to Big Rapids from Livonia after retiring from skilled trades. He was a life member of the Big Rapids AmVets Post #1941 and a long time member of the Big Rapids Eagles Aerie #2535. He enjoyed many hobbies; which included boating, flying model airplanes, racing go-carts, snowmobiling, motorcycling, hunting, competition pistol shooting, and traveling. Ron was a loving dedicated family man and he would always lend a helping hand. He is survived by his wife, Karen Camilleri of Big Rapids; 4 children, Ronald (Rebecca) Camilleri of Big Rapids, Ann (Garth) Hanson of Delton, Tracy Ahern of Brooklyn, and Jeff Ahern of Tampa, FL; 5 grandchildren, Brandi, Derek, Stephanie, Ryan, and Breanna; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Karen) Camilleri of Trenton; a sister, Barbara Vipperman of St. Pete, FL; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth Camilleri and his parents. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Chaplain Jeannie Schneider officiating. The family will greet friends Friday, June 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery in Reed City.
