Obituary

Ronald A. Broome, 95, of Chippewa Lake, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026. He was born on September 27, 1930, in Detroit, the son of Albert and Irma (Tabbert) Broome.

As a young boy, Ronald began working at his father’s gas station. When he came of age, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country. Upon returning home from the military, he and his father went on to own and operate the Union 76 Gas Station in Commerce together.

In his youth, Ronald was very active in athletics, especially baseball. He was a catcher on a Mexican League team in Detroit, where he developed his lifelong love for the game—and for hot tamales. He also enjoyed fishing on the Detroit River.

Ronald married Dierdre Batchelder in Ferndale at her parents’ home. Together they raised their family at Middle Straits Lake before later moving to the family farm at Chippewa Lake. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family.

Ronald loved his dogs, especially his most recent companion, Cody. Over the years, he had many beloved Pomeranians. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Red Wings. He bowled in two leagues, enjoyed snowmobiling, and made many cherished memories on fishing trips to Canada, where he formed lasting friendships.

He is survived by his children, Ronald O. (Linda) Broome, Donald (Deborah) Broome, and David (Rita) Broome; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Campbell, Joyce Finnimore, and Cheryl Broome; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dierdre Broome; and his brother, Earl Broome.

Graveside services will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest at Chippewa Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Barryton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chippewa Lake Community Church Building Fund.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Green Acres Assisted Living for their love, compassion, and dedicated care of Ronald.
