Roger Sova, 74, of Harrison, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born on May 20, 1950, in Stanwood, the son of Loren and Frances (Alger) Sova. On August 17, 1968, Roger married Cynda Cooley in Big Rapids, where they raised a family together and shared many wonderful years making memories, until Cyndas passing in 2011. Roger was known for his dedication to public service, spending eight years as a sheriffs deputy and another ten years working for central dispatch. His passion for helping others was evident by all who knew him. In addition to his work in law enforcement, Roger spent time working at Michigan Knife and served with the sheriff's posse. He was a licensed builder, often keeping himself busy with tinkering, chores, and finding ways to fix things. He also enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting and fishing, and when he wasnt outside, you could find him relaxing and watching TV. Rogers greatest passion, however, was music. He was a talented musician and loved sharing that gift with his family, playing music together being one of his most cherished pastimes. Roger is survived by his children: Rodger (Kathy) Sova, Wade (Shapel) Sova, April (Sid) Oates, Shane (Teri) Sova, and Amy (Brad) Cook; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his companion of 13 years, Annette Bussell, and her family; his siblings: Duane Cook, Carol Morris, and Alec Sova; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cynda Sova; Infant son Wayne Sova, and his siblings, Diana (Gordie) Riebow, Eugene Sova, and Willis Cook. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home, Big Rapids, with visitation on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Roger will be laid to rest at Pine Plains Cemetery, Big Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made in accordance with the familys wishes.
