Obituary

Roger Alan Baker, age 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at StoryPoint in Rockford, Michigan, after a dignified battle with dementia. He was born on August 1, 1939 in Hillsdale, Michigan to Ross and Celia Baker.Roger grew up as the oldest of four sons on the familys dairy farm in Jonesville, Michigan, and graduated as Salutatorian from Jonesville High School in 1957. After high school, Roger attended the University of Michigan, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by Wolverine World Wide in Rockford, and when he was promoted to the Plant Manager position, he brought his family to Big Rapids in 1972. Roger began Bakers Management Service in 1974, and worked there as an accountant, consultant and tax preparer for area businesses and individuals, until his retirement. Roger greatly enjoyed the relationships he built with his employees and clients over the years, and worked very hard to build Bakers Management Service into the successful business that it became.Roger had many interests outside of his work life, including bowling, softball, woodworking projects, and spending time with family. But his passion and favorite pastime was golf. He enjoyed weekly golf leagues with his friends, as well as golfing trips and a highlight experience of playing at the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Course in California.In both work and personal activities, Roger was known as a kind, humorous, intelligent and compassionate man who truly cared for others. In his early years, Roger attended the Presbyterian and United Methodist churches in Jonesville, Michigan. After moving to Big Rapids, Roger became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Big Rapids.Roger is survived by his children, Teri (Ormand) Hook, and Bruce (Dawn) Baker, both of Big Rapids; brother Jerry (Brenda) Baker of Climax, brother Dale (Carol) Baker of Jonesville, and sister-in-law Carol Baker of Schoolcraft; his adoring grandchildren Lauren (Kevin) Norton of Rockford, Lindsay (Donovan) Campbell of Thousand Oaks, CA, Paige (Justin) Thorne of Big Rapids, and Preston Baker of Big Rapids; great-grandchildren Liam and Lucas Norton; and several nieces and nephews. On June 25, 1960 Roger married Beverly June Coles in Jonesville, Michigan, who survives.Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Celia Baker, and his brother David.The family wishes to thank the staff of The Brook of Big Rapids and StoryPoint of Rockford for their compassionate and loving care of Roger during his time there.A funeral service will be held at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 27th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The family invites you to a time of sharing a meal and memories immediately following the service at Green Charter Township Hall in Paris, Michigan.
