Robert W. "Bob" Orweller, age 89 of Mecosta, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at his home. He was born in St. Johns on April 30, 1934, the son of the late Joseph and Marion (Horn) Orweller. Bob was a 1952 graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Bob was stationed in Japan where he learned clerical work; he was discharged in 1958. Bob married Bonita "Bonnie" Bellingar-Nyhus on August 27, 1965, in Elsie and together they made their home and raised their family in Clinton County. Bob was employed by Oldsmobile as a clerk and retired in 1982. He and Bonnie moved to their dream home at Tubbs Lake where he looked forward to fishing and going for long walks around the island. Bob also enjoyed playing card games, going for trips to the casino, and challenging himself with sudoku and crossword puzzles. Bob was a longtime volunteer at the Mecosta County Senior Center and was a driver for Mecosta County Commission on Aging. Bob is survived by his two sons, Raymond (Erika) Orweller of Mecosta and Milton Nyhus of Elsie; seven grandchildren, Kari, Jamie, Stephanie, Benjamin (Brandi), April Lynn, Amanda, and Steven Jr.; 24 great-grandchildren that fondly knew him as "Big Papa"; one great-great-grandson; sister, Charleen Bellingar of Ashley; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie; his son, Steven Nyhus; and three siblings, Shirley Mae Orweller, Joe Orweller, and Patricia Greenfield. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Duplain Township School House, 5565 East Colony Rd., St. Johns, MI 48879. Memorial Contributions may be made in Bobs name to Mecosta County Commission on Aging Transportation or Mecosta County Senior Center.
