Obituary

Robert T. Fisher of Big Rapids formerly of Ann Arbor passed away on September 17, 2009. He was born on December 8, 1922 to Robert D. and Grace R. Fisher in Detroit. Bob was the oldest of four children, who along with his parents preceded him to join the Lord. Bob attended school in Detroit and joined the U. S. Navy serving in the Pacific area, he took part in four battles in the Pacific and two in the Philippines where his ship was severely damaged. Bob received the Bronze Star Medal and many others for his service. Upon his return from WWII he married his loving wife, Dorothy M. (Dyar) they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on September 8th. They raised five children while living in the Ann Arbor Area. Three daughters, Beverly Adams of Virginia, Barbara Fisher of Ann Arbor, Patrice (Patrick) Pergolski of Wisconsin, and two sons, Robert Jr. (Pam) of Missouri and Gary (Brenda) of Ann Arbor. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Bob worked for 40 years for Detroit Edison, retiring as Electrical System Safety Supervisor; in 1986 he received the honor of being elected as the Safety Professional of the Year for the State of Michigan. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Construction Safety Institute, and the Michigan Safety Conference. Bob volunteered with the American Red Cross from more than 50 years. He was a member of the 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the American Society of Fire Protection Engineers, a life member of the VFW and a member of the Eagles. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22nd at St. Paul's Campus Parish in Big Rapids with Father Lam T. Le officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday at the Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. that evening. The family will also greet friends on Tuesday at the church one hour prior to services. Burial with military honors will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 23rd at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to Hospice of Michigan in his name.
