Robert "Bob" G. Balcer, age 79 of Sears went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 2, 2006 at his home after a short bout of cancer. Bob was born September 26, 1926 in Bloomington, Illinois to John and Anne (Patterson) Balcer. He was honorably discharged from the US Army after WWII. He married Betty Bentley August 22, 1953 in Flint, Michigan and they made their home in Flint moving to Alma where he worked in the refinery. Bob and Betty moved to Barryton in the early 60's and raised their family. Bob and Betty have been members of the Barryton Community Free Methodist Church since 1978. In his younger days Bob enjoyed fishing and currently woodworking became his hobby. He was an active gardener tending to the vegetables and flowers. It will be a long time before his family and friends forget how much he loved John Wayne. Mr. Balcer is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Betty of Sears, three sons: Robert Lee and Deb Wilkinson of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Ronald Balcer of Chippewa Lake, Daniel and Lori Balcer of Barryton, one daughter; Diane and Robert Dennis of Sears, one sister Juanita McCallie of Fort Myers, Florida, baby girl Amber who lives with her grandparents, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 5th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service with Pastor Tom Doherty officiating. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Balcer's name will be available at the funeral home.
