Richard G. Thompson, age 79 of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017. He was born March 4, 1937 the son of Glenn and Dorothea (Sparbel) Thompson. Richard grew up in Rogers Heights where his father owned and operated a gas station and garage. Richard began his working career with his father, then worked for Waddells, Frank and Wood Chevrolet and later as the service writer for Triangle Auto, all in Big Rapids. He also worked for the Napa Auto Parts store in both Remus and Big Rapids before his retirement. Richard liked to tinker on cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed drag races and did some racing in his younger years. Richard was a member of the Big Rapids Eagles. He is survived by his three sons, Glenn (Sue) Thompson of Big Rapids, Bruce (Cynthia) Thompson of Howard City, Kevin Thompson of Walkerville; three grandchildren, Kristin (Justin) Kunik of Leroy, Erin Thompson of White Cloud and Anthony Manning of Howard City.
