Richard P. Spedowski, age 76 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018. He was born November 4, 1942 in Austin Township, Mecosta County, the son of Joseph and Catherine (ONeil) Spedowski. Richard worked on the family farm east of Stanwood, where he was raised and where he continued his lifelong passion. He raised cattle and pigs and eventually achieved his dream of raising Black Angus Cattle. He also enjoyed rebuilding farm equipment. Richard was raised in the catholic faith and attended St. Apolonia Church in Morley. Richard married Lois Dunn on September 10, 1966 and resided in Stanwood before moving to Big Rapids to raise their family. Together, they attended St. Peter Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. Richard was employed by the Big Rapids Public Schools for 31 years before he retired. He was a member of the Greasy Fingers John Deere Two Cylinder Club and the Big Rapids Antique Farm and Power Club where he was Vice President and helped develop the club grounds. Richards children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was their inspiration with life and farming knowledge. Richard is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters, Dawn (Douglas) Corrie of Big Rapids and Sandra (Matthew) Brandal of Marion; a daughter at heart, Pamela Meeker of Big Rapids; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Monica) Corrie and Jennifer (Nathan) Sigmund, Jacob Brandal, and Logan Brandal; twelve siblings, Louise Spedowski, Robert (June), Ernest (Hilda), Dorothy Miller, Doreen (Dewayne) Yarrington, Edward (Dorothy), Barbara (Wayne) Cornell, Henry (Vicky), Earl "Tom" (Janet), Beverly Strait, Bonnie (Bill) Burden, and John (Jayne); sister-in-law, Eleanor Spedowske; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Ann Catherine in 1970, two sisters Beatrice and Vera Spedowski, and brother James Spedowske. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Big Rapids with Pastor Jonathan Williams officiating. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service Friday at the Church. Richard will be laid to rest at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids.
