Richard G. Morey age 83 of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Rich was born March 15, 1936 to Dale and Helen (Shedell) Morey in Remus. He honorably served his country in the 82nd Airborn Division of the United States Army from 1954 until 1956. Rich married Norita Morford on June 16, 1956 at the First United Methodist Church and together they made their home in Big Rapids. He was employed by the US Postal Service until his retirement. Rich was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a life-time member of Eagles Aeries #2535, both of Big Rapids. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Until recently, Rich could be found on the golf course or playing cards on Saturdays. Surviving are his wife Norita, a daughter, Vicky (Lonnie) Deur, a son, Jeffery (Terrie Newberry-Morey) Morey all of Big Rapids; four grandchildren, Kristin Deur, Scott Deur, Les Morey, Kacey Morey; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steven Morey, a brother, Ralph Morey, two sisters, Shirley Waite and Sharon Burden. A memorial gathering will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Eagles Aerie #2535, 18361 16 Mile Road, Big Rapids. Memorial contribution in Richards name may be made to either Eagles Aerie #2535 or The First United Methodist Church General Fund.
