Richard "Dick" Lyons, age 68 of Big Rapids, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, May 25, 2017.

He passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his beloved family.

Dick was born October 13, 1948 in Big Rapids the son of Carl and Patricia (Stratton) Lyons. Growing up in the Mecosta County area, he graduated from Morley Stanwood High School where he was an accomplished track star. He married Karen Higley on June 15, 1974 in Stanwood. They made their home in Big Rapids where Dick worked for Wolverine World Wide, retiring just five years ago. Dick was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He loved to fish the Muskegon River catching Walleye and Perch. Dick was an excellent and creative chef. He took meticulous preparations to ensure his meals were perfect, especially his fish and omelets. Dick was a proud member of the Mecosta County Softball Hall of Fame.

He will be remembered as a kind man who helped everyone. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Dick is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen Lyons of Big Rapids; two sons, Chad (Laura) Lyons of Ravenna, Derrick (Heather) Lyons of Bristol, IN; a granddaughter, Alexis Lyons of Grand Rapids; a grandson, Micaiah Lyons at home in Elkhart, IN; a brother, Chuck (Vicky) Lyons of Big Rapids; sister Kay Lyons of Texas; nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends including his golfing partner, Jason.

A memorial service and celebration of Dicks life will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Christ Harvest Church, 701 Woodard Ave., Big Rapids with Pastor Angela King officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mecosta County Commission on Aging.
