Obituary

Richard L. Gable, 66 of Barryton, passed away Monday, April 4, 2011 unexpectedly at his home. He was born on July 8, 1944 in Belleville, IL to Oliver and Shirley (Bell) Gable. Richard was raised by his father Oliver and his step mother Sarah. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy where he was in the Special Forces during the Vietnam War. Richard has made his home for the last four years in Barryton with his friend Carol Smith, and had been a member of the Morley (Altona) American Legion. He enjoyed driving semi trucks for numerous years and had been a driver for Cole Tire until his health began to decline 3 years ago. Richard was baptized the day before his passing and had been attending the Church of the First Born in Reed City. He loved to fish and hunt. Those that were close to him will continue to treasure the memories they hold. Richard or "Pops" as he was known to his family and close friends is survived by six children: Maureen "Rose" , Shirley Fay Williams, Anthony "Tony" Gable, Donavan Gable, Jessica Gable and Nicolas Gable; his brothers and sisters, Sharon, Joan, Oliver "Gabe" , Jean, Frank, Debbie and Betty Jo. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pops was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Shirley; step-mother Sarah, step-daughter Lanetta; and two sons, Richard Wiser and Brad Gable. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. In lieu of flowers donations can be left for the family at the funeral home.
