Obituary

Richard Edward "Uncle Dick" "Dicker" Doran, age 67 of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born January 6, 1946 in White Lake, MI the son of John A. and Ingrid L. (Jenssen) Doran II. Dick graduated from Milford High School. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge Dick worked for 15 years as the general manager for Alpine Valley Ski Area in White Lake. He later owned and operated Accurate Craft Construction in both Highland and Big Rapids for 15 years. He moved to Big Rapids in 1995 and worked as a bus driver for the Morley "" Stanwood School district until his retirement in 2012. Dick was a life member of B.O.T.H. and a member of Buffalo Eagles Aerie #4360 of Stanwood. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Kim Doran of Big Rapids; son Patrick John (Tiffany) Doran, currently stationed with the United States Army in Fort Bliss, Texas; daughter, Kari (Laurens) Laudowicz of Hawaii; five grandchildren, Mackenzie and Jackson Doran, Tyler, Lolah and Tau Laudowicz; a brother John A. "Jack" Doran III of Highland; a sister, Dorothy L. "Dody" (Bruce) Doran-Wadeson; his mother-in-law, Beverly Ann (Raymond J.) Rozanski of Heartland; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will take place 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Ed Milam officiating. Military honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #98 of Big Rapids. The family will greet friends prior to services on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Dick's name may be made to AAA Aneurysm Outreach (a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of abdominal aortic aneurysm).
