Richard C. Conners, age 90, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024. He was born June 6, 1934, the son of Arthur and Katherine (Marek) Conners. Richard was born and raised on the family farm in Stanwood. He lived and cared for this farm and land for most of his life, where he and his late wife Jeannine raised their two children, Vicki (Conners) Lodden and Greg Conners. Richard was honorably discharged from the United States Army, and he retired as a foreman from Michigan Knife in Big Rapids. Richard was an active member of Sylvester Community Church. Richard loved the outdoors and continued to cut wood to heat their home well into his eighties. He loved gardening, hunting, and enjoying coffee with neighbors and friends. Richard will be forever remembered for his friendly demeanor toward everyone and for the strength, dignity, and grace he displayed throughout his life. He is survived by his treasured family including his daughter Vicki Lodden of Big Rapids; son-in-law Tom Lodden of Morley; son Greg (Cindy) Conners of Belmont; three grandchildren, Kelli (Elliott) Wisthoff, Elizabeth (Zachary) VanSickle, and Ryan (Bri) Conners; five great-grandchildren, Anderson and Christopher Vansickle; Harlow, Aelin, and Iva Conners; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jeannine, six sisters and three brothers. Richard had many friends at the Brook of Cedar Springs. We are forever grateful for the loving staff that cared for Richard and became family during his last few years. A Celebration of Richards life will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday, one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richards name may be made to Sylvester Community Church.
