Obituary

Richard J. "Rich" Brennick Jr., age 62 of Stanwood, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 24, 2023, at his home. He was born in Norwich, Connecticut on April 28, 1960, the son of Richard Brennick and Barbara (Jarvis) Vodicka. Rich was a 1978 graduate of West Bloomfield High School. He was briefly a Chippewa as he left Central Michigan University early to pursue other passions. Rich married the love of his life, Amy Hallberg, on May 13, 1989, in Warren, where they made their home. Rich held numerous packaging sales positions which moved him and his family from Marine City, Holland, and eventually to Stanwood. Rich officially retired in 2022. He was a hard worker that was always busy, but he lived the motto "do what you love until its not fun anymore; then do something else." Rich dabbled in everything but his true passion was cars. He rebuilt cars, motorcycles, and tow trucks. Rich liked Formula 1 racing and riding motorcycles with his son-in-law, Nick. He was a homebody that enjoyed walking the trails on the property but could also be the charismatic life of the party at social events. Rich was always there to help, pass on his knowledge, and was a great mentor and role model to his family. He was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Rich will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Amy Brennick; two children, Samantha (Nick) Barscewski and Benjamin (Sonja Chae) Brennick; two grandchildren who lovingly called him "Papa", Millie and Henry; mother, Barbara (Ron) Vodicka; father, Richard (Gayle) Brennick; three sisters, Jayne (Don) Corwin, Peg (Wayne) Nielsen, and Kathleen (Tim) Rubert; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. A Memorial Service will take place 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Jeffrey Weber officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Funeral Home.
