Rhea "Marie" Michael, age 75 of Big Rapids, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, February 4, 2012. For several years she had battled M.S. and most recently Cancer. Marie was born February 21, 1936 near Stanwood the daughter of George and Ida Crandall. She had earned her R. N. Degree from Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Marie worked in several hospitals until marring Harry Michael in 1982 and moving to Big Rapids. She was a co-owner of Michael Oil and Propane Company. Marie was a dedicated member of Charity Baptist Church in Paris and the Gideon International Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband Harry; four children, Mike Hickok of Kalamazoo, Mark (Char) Hickok of Texas, Steve (Cathy) Hickok of Kalamazoo, Bob (Stacia) Hickok of Arizona; step-children, Sally (Art) Gamble of Paris, Gail (Gary) Bailey of Hersey, David (Meghan) Michael of Memphis, TN, John Loveland of Evart, Kathy (Robert) Czarnecki; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Peggy) Crandall of Vacaville, CA and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her brother, "Boots" O'Neil Newkirk. A memorial service will take place 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 18th at the Charity Baptist Church at the corner of Northland Drive and 20 Mile Road in Paris, with Pastor Robert King will officiate the service. Memorial contributions in Marie's name may be made to either the Charity Baptist Church or Gideon's International.
