Obituary

Rex R. Earle, of Barryton, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the age of 81. He was born March 15, 1927 in Fork Township to Forrest and May (Fleck) Earle. Rex graduated from the Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1945. He married his high school sweetheart, Alice Bonham on June 4, 1945 in Barryton. Rex was inducted into the United States Army on July 23, 1945. He was stationed in Austria assigned to the Military Police. Following his honorable discharge, Rex returned to Barryton where he owned and operated a farm and sawmill with his brother, Max Earle. Rex also worked for the Mecosta County Extension Office and had butchered for the MacKersie Brothers since he was a very young man. Rex was a active member of the Barryton Community; he had served as the Barryton Village President, he had been a Mecosta County Commissioner, he was the President of the Barryton Fair board and for several years worked with Miles Miller helping to construct Merrill, Gorrell, Browers and Pogy Lake County Parks. Rex was a longtime member of the Barryton Church of God. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Alice of Barryton; a son, Bob (Ruby) Earle of Barryton; 5 grandchildren, Michael (Alice) Stillwell of Arkansas, Carrie Hines of Reed City, Craig (Becky) Stillwell of Arkansas, Scott Earle of Barryton and Tony (Shelli) Earle of Mecosta; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Russ (Carol) Earle and David (Candy) Earle all of Barryton; 4 sisters, Virginia (Roylyn) Miller of Dansville, Marlene Kelly of East Lansing, Marian Joan Earle of Grand Ledge, Ruth A. Earle of Barryton and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Rex was preceded in death by 2 daughters; infant Gloria Kay Earle and Linda Stillwell; 2 brothers, infant Donald Earle and Max Earle; and a sister, Edith Ann Johnston. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11th at the Barryton Church of God with Pastor Gary Bryan officiating. Burial will be at East Fork Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Memorial contributions in Rex's name may be given to the Barryton Church of God.
