The Reverend Laura L. Orchard, age 80 of Stanwood, went to be with her Lord, Friday, December 7, 2007. She was born November 1, 1927 in Benton, Kentucky to Ermin and Minnie (Grubbs) Myers. Laura graduated from Roseville High School. She married the Reverend Lloyd V. Orchard Sr. on January 10, 1946 at the Parkside Assembly of God Church in Detroit and they both were ordained in the Assembly of God Church. They went on to plant three churches in southeastern Missouri and later planted a church in Mio, Michigan. After Laura raised her six children, she went on to further her education at Central Michigan University earning her Bachelors of Education degree when she was 57 years old. She taught elementary, special education and art at many area schools. She is survived by her six children; Laura (Kenneth) Zitlau of Hesperia, CA Lloyd V. Jr. (Cecilia) Orchard of Big Rapids Deborah Bills of West Branch Reverend Kathy L. (Reverend Richard) Beals of St. Helen Karen (Randall) Scott of West Branch Nicholas (Christine) Orchard of Tavarres, FL 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren 2 brothers; Clinton (Josephine) Myers of Benton, KY Edward (Florence) Myers, a sister; Glenda Ashton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons; Ricky and Danny, her husband, Rev. Lloyd V. Orchard Sr. on July 17, 2005, and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will take place 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 12th at the Big Rapids Assembly of God Church with Reverend Kevin Payne officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the services at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the family or left at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids where arrangements were made.
