Rev. Dr. Otto Reinhold Abrams, age 86 of Mecosta, passed away on November 13th, 2012 at his home. He was born November 5, 1926 in his family home in Mecosta, to Ed and Albertina Abrams. He attended school in Mecosta graduating in 1945 from Mecosta High School. Otto served in the United States Army from 1945-1947, serving in the middle Pacific as a sergeant. He attended Orthodox Lutheran Seminary in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating in 1956. In 1957 he married the former Joyce Holzinger in Mankato, Minnesota. He served as pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Fridley, Minnesota. The family later moved to Oregon, Wisconsin. Otto received his doctorate in 1988 after moving back to his home state of Michigan. He married the former Dorothy Bahls in 1988 in Lansing, Michigan. He and Dorothy resided in Lansing and wintered in Sebring, Florida until her death in 2001. Otto returned then to Mecosta, where he lived until his passing. Otto is survived by his daughter, Deborah Abrams of Oregon, Wisconsin, son Stephen Abrams and his wife Genevieve of Mecosta, grandson Daniel of Mt. Pleasant, and Deborah and Stephen's mother, Joyce Abrams of Oregon, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his brother Emil, his parents, his second wife Dorothy, and sister Albertina Weinlander. Special thanks to Hospice of Michigan, Auntie A.C.E. Home Health Care, and his private caregivers. They were all wonderful, compassionate, and a blessing to Otto and his family for the last three years, providing him with excellent care. A memorial service will be held on December 1, 2012 at 1:30pm at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E. Preston, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858, led by Pastor Michael Biedenbender.
