Retta "Iola" Stiles, age 93 of Big Rapids, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at her home surrounded by her children. She was born November 5, 1921 in Big Rapids, the daughter of William and Grace (Jenkins) Cady. Iola's life was dedicated to raising children; as a foster parent, along with her husband Loren, Iola shared her home, family and especially her love with 63 children. In Iola's own words "I collect people" and then they became part of her family. She was always knitting baby blankets and sweater sets, but never with a pattern. Iola chose to live everyday happy; she was always smiling and made a point to brighten everyone's life, she kept that attitude until the very end. Iola was a faithful member of Trinity Fellowship Evangelical Free Church of Big Rapids for over 25 years. She will be forever missed and always remembered by her loving family including; her children, Steven (Sharon) Settlemyre of Cedar Springs, James (Joan) Settlemyre of Lansing, Jan (Connie) Settlemyre of Zeeland, Marshall "Skip" Enyart of California, Walter Kim (Carol) Enyart of Lakeview, Kelly (Jim) Bouman of Paris, Kevyn (Becky) Enyart of Chase, Linda Stiles Graham of Florida, Daryn (Tina) Stiles of Ashton, Mari (Sam) Dwyer of Big Rapids, Jamie (Michael) Hamilton of Big Rapids, son-in-laws, Michael "Mickey" Wise of Panama City, FL, Ron Merritt of Farwell; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Settlemyre of White Cloud; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, William "Bill" (Mildred) Cady of Kentucky; two sisters, Barbara Biller of Big Rapids and Beatrice Batchelder of Reed City; a sister-in-law, Edna Cady of Big Rapids; many nieces, nephews and all the people she collected along the way. Iola was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, James Coleman Settlemyre, Walter Andrew Enyart and Loren Stiles; four sons, Jaremy Stiles, Jerry, Gerry and Jeffrey Settlemyre; three daughters, Marlene Settlemyre, Andria Merritt and Diane Stiles Wise; a brother, George Cady; three sisters, Ruby Ferrier, Evelyn Shore and Gladys "Blondie" Martin. Iola's faith in God was what gave her strength through all her losses. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Trinity Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Big Rapids with Pastor Gary deBock and Elder Bill Routley officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 9th at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Iola will be laid to rest at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids in the Spring. Memorial contributions in Iola's name may be made to Trinity Fellowship Evangelical Free Church and will be directed to various Children's programs and missions.
