Rene A. Wiebenga, age 80, died unexpectedly at his home in Stanwood Monday, November 28, 2022. He was born September 30, 1942 in Grand Rapids, the son of M. and Clara (Vandaguchi) Wiebenga. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1964 after four years of service. Rene attended Western Michigan University receiving his associates degree in accounting in 1968. He had a passion for animals, raising Arabian horses for over 20 years and countless dogs. Rene enjoyed farming and always had a large vegetable garden to care for. He loved to watch baseball, football, and NASCAR. He will be missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Shirley; children, Debra Smith, Ray Wiebenga, Wendy Wiebenga; siblings, Jackie Grahtrup, Ron (Pattie) Wiebenga; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
