Rebecca "Becky" Rees, age 43, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 7, 2021 at her home in Stanwood. She was born in Lakeview on March 22, 1978, the daughter of Gary and Diane (Hopkins) Wahl. Becky married the love of her life in 2003 and together they raised their children in Stanwood. Becky was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. She has been active in 4H for many years and loved caring for many animals including horses, rabbits, chickens, and puppies. One of her many passions in life was horses, raising, training and riding throughout her life. She participated in the Morley-Stanwood Equestrian Team in high school and was later a coach for five years. Becky taught ASL sign language at Central Michigan University for ten years. She was always very involved in Deaf Awareness Week at CMU. Becky enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, and riding her horses. She loved spending time with her family, and going on Caribbean cruises with her husband. Becky always had a kind word and smile for everyone. She made friends easily and will be missed by many. Becky is survived by her beloved husband of 18 years, Andrew; children, Daniel and Elizabeth; mother, Diane Wahl; siblings, Adam (Deborah) Wahl, Jennifer (Wayne) Hughes; mother-in-law, Jan Rees; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Dan) Cherney; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gary; and father-in-law, Richard Rees. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2021 at The Woods Free Methodist Church in Stanwood with visitation an hour prior. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Morley Stanwood Equestrian Team or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
