Raymond L. "Ray" Fish, age 87 of Stanwood, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, November 3, 2016. He was born February 26, 1929 in Grand Rapids the son of Laurence J. and Lucille C. (Schoenborn) Fish. Ray graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids in 1947. He married the former Patricia E. Unger on October 21, 1950 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Grand Rapids. In 1951 Ray was drafted into the United States Army, he served honorably until his discharge in 1953. He was employed at Grand Rapids Label for over 44 years, retiring to his home on the Muskegon River near Stanwood in 1986. Ray enjoyed boating, especially on his pontoon boat; hunting and he dearly loved spending time with his beloved wife Pat. Ray was a member of St. Mary - St. Paul Parish in Big Rapids. He is survived by his four children, Russell Fish of Big Rapids, Alan (Terri) Fish of Petoskey, Linda (Joseph) Rumler of Comstock Park, Mike Fish of Stanwood; 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Ellison of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law, Jim McElheny of Grand Rapids and many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Patricia "Pat" Fish, on May 21, 2014, his son Tom Fish, an infant daughter, Sandra Fish and a sister, Virginia McElheny. A Liturgy of the Resurrection will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Michael Burt officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Grand Rapids. The family will greet friends on Sunday, November 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and also on Monday at the church one hour prior to services.
