Obituary

Randall "Randy" D. Smith, age 55, of Weidman passed away, unexpectedly at home, Friday, December 21, 2007. He was born in Grand Rapids, January 27, 1952, to Harold and Evelyn (Root) Smith. Randy enjoyed his childhood in the Green Lake/Grand Rapids area. He entered the United States Air Force at age 20 where he became an airplane mechanic. Following the Vietnam War he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. Shortly after his return he met Emilie (Romines) Lozano and together they made their home in Grand Rapids where they raised two of her daughters Sherry and Sheila. As time went by they decided to raise seven of their grandchildren. Randy was a certified auto mechanic working for Ryder Truck Company until his Parkinson's got to bad. In 2001 Randy and Emilie and grand daughter Emmie moved to Weidman to be closer to their daughter Sherry. He was a strong man never letting the Parkinson's get him down while on medication he enjoyed going out fishing or do home repairs and continued to work on vehicles. Randy kept waiting to be well enough to go out hunting one last time. He believed strongly once you fall you pick yourself back up again. Randy took pride in raising his family including most of his grandchildren. He was kind hearted and enjoyed taking the family from place to place in the big blue church bus. He is survived by his beloved Emilie who he was never far from. The children that know him as their dad: Sherry (Brian) Soderquist of Remus and Sheila (Eric) Hoag of Grand Rapids, Cathy Tucker of South Carolina and Janet (Fernando) Malagon. There are seven grandchildren who also know him as DAD that he raised they are; Immanuel, Gilbert, Shanna, Moses, Mario, Emilio and Emilie "Emmie" . His other grandchildren are; James, Jacob, Kayla, April, Dawn, Eric, Christopher, Jordan, Billie Jo, Misty, Michael, Natasha, Jason, James, Desiree, Donna Marie, Jose', Donald, Billy Joe and Robby. Randy has 16 brothers and sisters some of those who he has just recently met out of the family there was no greater love then the brotherly love between Randy and Terry. He spent most of his time with Terry (Sue) Smith, other brothers and sisters; Harold Lee, David, Gary, Dale, Dennis, Shane, Debbie, Sherry, Darlene, Becky, Nancy, Emily and Annette. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter; Donna Meade, brother; Dennis, and beloved grand son Jeffrey Shane Osawabine. The family will greet friends at the Daggett Funeral Home on Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. "" 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services for Randy will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 31st at the funeral home with a committal service at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
