Ralph Eling, 87, of Rodney, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. He was born on March 2, 1939, in McBain, the son of Ralph and Avril (Meeker) Eling.
Ralph was united in marriage to Dorothy Stall in 1959, and together they shared a lifetime of love, hard work, and family.
A true master tradesman, Ralph built a career through skill, determination, and an unwavering work ethic. He was an accomplished carpenter, cabinet maker, and woodworker whose craftsmanship reflected the pride he took in every project. Whether building something with his hands or tackling a repair, Ralph's talents seemed endless. He was also an able mechanic who enjoyed working on his vehicles, earning the reputation of being a true "jack of all trades."
Outside of work, Ralph found his greatest enjoyment in the outdoors and playing music. An avid hunter and fisherman, he appreciated the peace and beauty of nature. He had his morning cup of coffee outdoors practically every day. He loved to "tune em up" when a fellow musician came around. Ralph was a pretty good fiddler and used to play weddings and dances every weekend back in the day.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Eling; his children, Steve (Mimi) Eling, Kathy (Timothy) Berry, and Betty Eling; his grandchildren, Rebecca Meadows, Holly Hill, Kaylea Berry, Joseph Berry, and Grace Edwards; his great-grandchildren, Zachary Wheeler, Eliza Wheeler, and Zoey Hardt; his sister, Sharon Arriaga; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Fleming; his grandson, Matthew Eling; his parents; and his siblings, Robert, Dorothy, and Beatrice.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Homes in Big Rapids. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A luncheon will follow the service.
Ralph will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in McBain.
