Obituary

Phyllis E. Ostahowski, age 89 of Barryton, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021, at her grandsons home in Midland. She was born in Midland on March 4, 1931, the daughter of John and Evelyn (Lloyd) Hall. Phyllis was a 1949 graduate from Midland High School. She married Edward Ostahowski on June 25, 1949, and together they raised their four children. Phyllis was a part time Shaklee Supervisor for 30 years. She also worked as a housekeeper at Dow Foundation. Phyllis was outgoing and very involved in her communities where she resided. In Gladwin, she started the Herb Club as well as several other groups. Later when she moved to Barryton, she began the Pinochle Club at the Mecosta Senior Center in 2001. Phyllis looked forward to attending St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus, where she was a member. Phyllis felt that she was blessed throughout her life to have met and had friends that were amazing; which led her to several good experiences and learning opportunities. She will be missed by her family and friends. Phyllis is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Claudia) of Big Rapids; two daughters, Rose (Ken) Tanner of Canandaigua, NY and Linda (Bob) Altman of Mecosta; daughter-in-law, Linda Kay Alford-Ostahowski of Barryton; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild with one on the way; two brothers, Jerry (Pam) Hall of Allouze and Larry (Karen) Hall of Midland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward in 2005, son Douglas, two sisters Shirley (Ernie) Ratajaczak and Beverly (Doug) Dickinson, and grandson Robert Altman III. Mass of the Resurrection will take place 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2021 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus with Father Tom Boufford officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to Mass on Friday at the Church.
