Phyllis J. Grimm, age 90 of Fort Collins, Colorado formerly of Rockford, Michigan, joyously joined her Lord and Savior Sunday, June 25, 2017 in Colorado. She was born March 15, 1927 in Holland, Michigan, the daughter of John and Henrietta (Nehmer) Janssen. Phyllis graduated from Rockford Senior High School as the Valedictorian in 1945. She achieved her Bachelor Degree in English and Music Education from Michigan State University. Phyllis was passionate about music. She taught private piano lessons for 25 years. Phyllis was active in several different church choirs, singing in the group and as a soloist, throughout Grand Rapids and Rockford. She was a volunteer in the Rockford School system for over 25 years and funded a music scholarship in her name at the Rockford Public School. Phyllis was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Flanagan of Clinton Township, Michigan, three daughters and their husbands, Sharon "Sherry" and Edward VanOveren of Ada, Michigan, Kathy and Larry Russell of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, Debbie and Bill Anderson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and her son and his wife, Larry and Elizabeth Grimm of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandchildren, Joshua VanOveren, Kristi Garner, Ellie Daily, Scott Sharphorn and Suzi Wynsma, Caitelen Schneeberger, Steven and Michael Anderson; 12 great-grandchildren; and one nephew. All of these Phyllis loved and touched deeply. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents. Reverend Tracey Taylor-Kunst will officiate the 11:00 am Memorial Service. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, 10:00 am, at the church on Friday.
