Phillip Otis Cornell, age 69, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 22, 2021. He was born on June 17, 1952 in Stanwood, the son of Charles E and Estelle S (Peterson) Cornell. He went to Morley Stanwood Community Schools and graduated in the class of 1971. Phillip started his working life at the Olsen Knife Company right out of high school; he then went to work with the IBEW until he went into farming with his parents. He farmed until life wouldnt let him anymore. Following farming, he worked part time for the Meijer store in Big Rapids. He also worked part time for Aetna Township helping to take care of the cemetery. Phillip loved riding his bikes wherever he could, especially his "Huffy-Davidson" his son Chase had put together for him. He also enjoyed gardening. Phillip was a kind soul who would do things like call his little sister Barbie every night just to see how her dogs and cats were doing and to catch up on the days events with her. Surviving are his four children, Angie (Matt) Stilson, Mike (Susan) Cornell, Chase (Cindy) Cornell, and Melissa Cornell; eleven grandchildren, Samantha and Brett Stilson, Kylie, Gaven, and Emmitt Cornell, Taylor, Bennett, and Riley Cornell, Austin Lee, Leah and Logan Clark; sisters, Connie (Don) Stevens and Barbie Cornell; best friend Kenneth Whipple and special friend Jennie Nadeau. He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Estelle Cornell; grandson Reece Cornell; and brother, Charles "Punk" Cornell. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with visitation an hour prior. Officiating, Pastor John David Stilson.
