Philip R. Worthy, age 82 of Rodney, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021. He was born in Ionia on December 16, 1938, the son of Leonard and Janice (Thomas) Worthy. Philip was a 1957 graduate of Barryton High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Lenita Potter on August 10, 1957, and together they raised their family in Barryton.
Philip was employed as a Relief Agent for the CNO Railroad and later retired from Michigan Knife, currently known as Simonds, in 2001. He had an "old school personality in which he always helped people in need and was a genuinely good person. Philip was extremely gifted and loved working hard. He taught himself building trades, such as: carpentry, roofing, and he could repair virtually anything. Philip enjoyed anything outdoors; vegetable gardening, farming, camping, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He also carried seed in his pocket to feed the birds out of his hands.
Philip will be dearly missed. He is survived by his two children, Tammi (Bill) Maxfield of Hersey and Troy (Sharon) Worthy of Rodney; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Jody) Worthy of Gladwin; and many nieces and nephews.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Lenita in 2015, brother Don Worthy, and sisters Barbara Jehnzen and Phyllis Grove.
A Memorial Service will take place 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Pastor Ken Dunn officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A recording of the service has been added to the memorial video.
Memorial contributions may be made in Philips name to the Alzheimers Association.
