Philip J. Hatchew, age 73 of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully Thursday August 23, 2007 at his home. He was born on January 23, 1934 in Big Rapids, to Raymond S. and Gladys (Butler) Hatchew. Phil was a graduate of Big Rapids High School. He married Hilma Olson of Paris, MI on June 26, 1954 and they made their home in Big Rapids. Phil established the well known "Phil's Auto Parts" of Big Rapids. He was completely dedicated to running his business, yet once a year Phil made time for a hunting trip out west. He is survived by His 5 children: Danny (special friend Kim Dennis), Sue (Don) Sack, Kevin (DeMar), Brian (special friend Sandy Carey), Rex (Laurie) all of Big Rapids 7 Grandchildren: Danny, Alan, Kacy Gillies (fianc Todd Rohn), Raychelle, Jaclynn, Jenna and Christa Hatchew One step granddaughter; Tina (Chad) Schappa and two step great-grandchildren; Ethan and Kylee Schappa of Grand Rapids. 2 sisters; Jean Asch of Grand Rapids Anna M. Leiter of Big Rapids step-sister; Lois Stargard of California and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Hilma Hatchew on June 17, 2007, a brother, John Hatchew and infant sister Patricia Ruth Hatchew. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2007 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Edward Slate officiating. Burial will be at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
