Philena J. Stine, age 68 of Morley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at her daughter's home in Indiana; surrounded by her beloved family. She was born April 19, 1947 in Lakeview, the daughter of Lewis and Betty (Deyo) Anderson. Philena graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1965. She married Bernard "TD" Stine on April 10, 1965 in Morley. Philena earned her cosmetology license from Tracey Beauty Academy in Grand Rapids. She owned and operated her own beauty salon, Kut N Kurl Korner. Philena was also employed by Morley Stanwood Public Schools as a bus driver until she retired in 2014. She served the Village of Morley for 25 years as a Trustee. Philena was also the Chief of Police, the Mayor Pro Tem, and a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 554 in Morley. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and going to the casino. Philena loved traveling and family gatherings at the cabin. She is survived by her loving daughter Melinda Stine (Tina Alcala) of Indiana; granddaughter, Philena N. (Joshua) Snider of New Baltimore; great-grandson, William Harvey; sister, Kathie (Russ) Detloff of Swartz Creek; brother, Lewis John (Catherine) Anderson of Hastings; brother-in-law, Charlie Baisch of Grosse Pointe Park; aunt, Eleen Hall of Morley; several nieces and nephews. Philena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard "TD" Stine on October 14, 1972; sister, Linda Baisch; and brother, Michael "Mickey" Anderson. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2015 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1st at the funeral home. Philena will be laid to rest at Altona Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Philena's name to the family to be given to the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 554 in Morley.
