PAUL A. JOHNSON age 65 of Morley, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008 at his home with loved ones at his side. He was born December 21, 1942 to Earl and Shirley Irving in Richmond, Indiana. After finishing his eleventh grade year in Berne, Indiana he enlisted in the United States Army where he completed his education. Following the service he met and married Melanie L. Leonard at her parent's house on February 14, 1963 in Centerville, Indiana. They made Michigan their permanent home in 1989 and moved to Morley in the early 90's. For over 30 years Paul was a truck driver most recently working for Gainey until his health declined two years ago. Paul made friends easily, was smart and had a good sense of humor. He was self sufficient and took care of his family. The "Big Blowout" (pig roast) won't be the same without him. Paul loved the outdoors, gardening and took pride in his yard. He was an avid hunter always trying to get that big buck and enjoyed fishing. Paul or "PJ" to his friends will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 45 years Melanie of Morley, One son: Jeff Johnson of Pennsylvania, Three daughters: Robin Reed (significant other Dan McIntyre) of Morley, Theresa (Mark) Neel of New Castle, IN, and April Johnson of Morley, Twelve grandchildren: Abby, Jason, Shaunda, Brandyn, Brittani, Daniel, Andrew, Marky, Krystal, Kara, Heather and Brandon, Six great-grandchildren: Ryleigh, Russell, Chandler, Isaiah, Braiden, Braylee, Jacob and Tyler, Half brother Ronnie Irving , One step brother Patrick Irving, his dogs and several friends. Paul was preceded in death by his father, step mother Colleen Irving and a daughter Jill Dodge. Funeral services will be held at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids on Friday, December 26, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. with visitation two hours prior from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Paul's name maybe left at the funeral home.
