Obituary

Patrick H. Kailing, a lifelong resident of Reed City, passed away peacefully from heart complications on Thursday, April 8, 2021; he was at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Patrick was born March 8, 1950 in Reed City the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Kuipers) Kailing. He graduated from Reed City High School in 1968 and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving until 1971. Following Patricks honorable discharge, he returned to Reed City to pursue his education. He attended Ferris State University where he received a Bachelors degree in Accounting. Patrick married the former Rosemary Suckow on October 19, 1979 and together they made their home in the Reed City area. He went on to earn his Masters degree from Central Michigan University in 1982.Patrick worked for the State of Michigan as a staff auditor; it was during that time he earned his CPA. He also worked as an instructor at Ferris State University for a year. In 1981 he established Patrick Kailing CPA, PC in Reed City, currently Crossroads Business Services. Patrick was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reed City. He belonged to several civic and veteran organizations including; the Moose Lodge, the Jaycees, and AmVets Post 2965, where he served as the financial officer and was part of the Honor Guard.He was also an Osceola County Commissioner serving from 1987 to 1992, chairman of the Lake/Osceola Soil Conservation District, the Supervisor for Richmond Township Planning Commission and was a volunteer at Recycle for Osceola County. In his spare time, Patrick loved to farm, he was happiest out on his tractor.Patrick is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Rosemary; four children, Michael Snavley of Derby, KS, Dawn (Tim) Pullen, Jennifer (Nathan) Wallace, Toni (Norman) King all of Reed City; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Snavley, Samantha (Sean) Brown, Nathan Snavley, Lauren Snavley, James Snavley, Evan Pullen, Brenden Pullen, Jaysen Pullen, Owen Wallace, Grayson Wallace; a brother, James Kuipers of Louisville, KY; 4 sisters, Kay (Edward) Suckow of Paris, Joan (John) Williams, Pam (John) Vanderhoof, Laurie (Daniel) Grein all of Reed City; brother-in-law, Lonnie (Rosemary) Ward of Whitehall, 2 sisters-in-law, Linda (Walter) Parks of Denver, CO, Cathy Quinn of Reed City; many nieces and nephews.Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Daniel Kailing, 2 sisters, Nancy Ward, Barbara Kailing, niece, Stacy Kuipers and a nephew Wesley Parks.A Memorial Service will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday April 16, 2021 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reed City with Pastor Paul Tonn officiating. There will be military honors under the auspices of VFW Post 2964/AmVets Post 2965 of Reed City. The family will greet friends on Thursday April 15th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. also at the Trinity Lutheran Church.
