Patricia Joppe Vodry, age 88 of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community in Grand Rapids. She was born May 23, 1925 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Ernest and Marian (Shireling) Joppe. Pat graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids. She married Owen D. Vodry Jr. on April 19, 1947 in Grand Rapids, where they made their home until they moved to Big Rapids in 1963. Together with their family they were members of the United Church of Big Rapids. Pat was known throughout the area for her love of quilting and was always involved in the making of quilts as fund-raisers for the United Church. She was a member of the Canadian Lakes Quilt Club, Mid-Michigan Quilters and West Michigan Quilters. Pat served as the President of Daisy Chain #974 BPOE, the North West District President of GFWC-Big Rapids and the Memorial Chairman for Mecosta County Cancer Society. She was a life member of Big Rapids OES #42 and the "Red Hatitudes" of Big Rapids. Pat also started the "Tour of Homes" for the Big Rapids Women's Club. She enjoyed watching sports; including, golf, the Kentucky Derby, the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. She will be greatly missed by her family. Pat is survived by her children, Pam (Greg) Powers of Belmont, David (Cindy) Vodry of Caledonia and Greg (Chris) Vodry of Big Rapids; her very special grandchildren, Rick (Heather) and Scott Powers, Katie and Dustin Vodry, Kurt (his fiance, Armanda and family) Vodry, Amber (Kirk) Jensen; her darling great-grandchildren, Kara Vodry, Owen Powers and Austin and Kamerin Jensen; her step-grandchildren, Stephanie (Chris) McNeil and family and Joseph (Jessica) Jeluso and family; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Owen D. Vodry Jr. on October 4, 1991 and her parents. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the United Church of Big Rapids with Reverend Jon Fleming officiating. The family will greet friends 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Interment will be at Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Pat's name to WISE or American Cancer Society.
