Obituary

Patricia A. Mondrella, age 74 of Rodney, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 7, 1947 in Big Rapids the oldest of 13 girls. Pat was a lifelong and devout member of St Marys Catholic Church in Big Rapids. As a child, she attended St. Marys School until joining the students at Big Rapids High School where she graduated in 1965. Pat married John Mondrella at St. Marys Church on April 15, 1972. Together they made their home in Rodney where Pat was a busy mother of four boys. She remained a farmer her entire life; first, alongside her father and later with her husband and boys. Being the firstborn in a family of 13 children, Pat was a natural caregiver. She treated everyone the same, just like family. All of her sons friends called her ma; she watched over her neighbors and cared for many elderly family and friends. Besides farming, Pat enjoyed quilting, tending her flower beds, picking berries, and fishing. She is survived by her husband of over 49 years, John; three sons, Steve (Jenny Rood) Mondrella of Big Rapids, Joe (Angie) Mondrella of Rodney, Zeb (Kim) Mondrella of Canadian Lakes; 5 grandchildren, Kaylee and her husband Jeremy, Avery, Emma, Sophia, and Audrina Mondrella; 11 sisters, Sharon (Marshall Morlock) Fredrick of Ennis, MT, Judi Sims of Big Rapids, Katherine (James) Gillmer of Rapid River, Carol Smith of Ennis, MT, Barb (Martin) Schneider of Rodney, Mary (Fred) Knopf of Sears, Connie Nordland of Rodney, Paula Fredrick of Rodney, Jackie (Donald) Shields of Rockford, Joy (Keith) Smith of Wyoming, MI, Margie Fredrick of Ionia; many nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice (Conard) Fredrick, her father and mother in-law, Bud and Marge Mondrella, her son Ben "Thumber" Mondrella, her sister Linda Fredrick; brothers-in-law, Micheal Sims, Allen Smith, Bruce Nordland, and Jeff Dennis; daughter-in-law, Karen Walter Mondrella. A Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 at St. Marys Church in Big Rapids with Father Dan DePew officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday, February 3rd at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. The family will also greet friends at church one hour prior to the Mass on Friday. Pat will be laid to rest in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or Mount Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
