Obituary

Pamela Sue (Ebright) Alley was born the daughter of Carl and Edith Ebright on November 5, 1950, in Alma, Michigan at the Smith Memorial Hospital. She spent her childhood there and graduated from Alma High School in 1968. She attended Ferris State College earning a secretarial certificate in 1969 and married her high school sweetheart, Peter Alley in 1970. Then came their children, jobs, adventures, retirement. It hardly seems enough to share a life in just a few paragraphs. And yet, I hope that between the lines you remember all she was to us. The things Mom loved would fill an entire chapter, maybe two, of a book 73 years long. Pamela Sue, as Dad liked to call her, loved the unusual and the unique, the unexpected flower in the sidewalk crack. She often took in strays, both animal and human, the college student who needed a home. Time was a gift she opened every day. There wasnt a time where giving wasnt on the schedule. Mom was a born caregiver. She had a sixth sense about people, about us kids, and our needs. We were her full-time job, and she often worked overtime. We ate meals together, built forts, rode dirt bikes, and broke tailbones on the toboggan. Sunday evenings involved popcorn and reading aloud. When her beloved nest was empty, Mom went back to Ferris State University. She earned an Associates of Science in Nursing and RN in May 1992. She was 42 years old. She then received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in August 1994. Mom went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing from Andrews University in 1997. She was a certified family, internal medicine, and pediatrics nurse practitioner in the Big Rapids and Reed City areas for 15 years. In addition to serving her community, Pam and her husband Pete served on several short-term mission trips to Guyana and Haiti. When those in need came and the lines were long, Mom washed feet. She didnt consider serving to be an obligation but a privilege. And she loved people. She loved Jesus. Pams kids married some of her favorites and had her biggest treasures in life, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. From the dollar in the bottom of her purse to the "I love you bigger than the sun, the moon and the stars", her joy knew no bounds. Alzheimers Disease couldnt take away knowing her precious grands. I think loving her family so deeply etched each of us in her mind and heart. Gods grace kept us there until the end. Pamela Sue went to be with Jesus on May 16, 2024. She is healed, whole, and praising her Savior. We will remember what you always said, Mom, "God is good, all the time". Pamela Sue Alley is survived by her husband Pete Alley of 54 years, her children Heather (Aron) Palmer of Lakeview, MI, Ryan (Karla) Alley of Big Rapids, MI, and Jenifer (Scott) Dalstra of South Boardman, MI. Eleven grandchildren, Jared (Abigail), Jacob, Danielle, AJ, and Jade Palmer, Josh (Sienna), Leah, Sam, and Zach Alley, Lauren, Brayden Dalstra.
