Obituary

Odette B. "Pat" Walworth, age 88 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009. She was born September 4, 1921 in Millington the daughter of Frank and Germaine Parker. Pat married Ford C. Walworth on July 26, 1942 in Owasso. They were both avid aviators; while Ford pursued his career as a pilot in the United States Air force, Pat worked as an air traffic controller. They lived throughout the southern United States until retiring from aviation in 1970. They moved to Big Rapids where they owned and operated the Montgomery Ward Store for many years. Pat was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Big Rapids and especially enjoyed spending time with the Galloping Grannies. She also stayed active in the Big Rapids community by volunteering for the American Red Cross and the Hospital Auxiliary. Pat is survived by her three children; Renee (Kelley) Keena of Hersey, Robert (Mary Kay) Walworth of Big Rapids, James Roger (Sandy) Walworth of Middletown, CA; 7 grandchildren, Parker, Ben, Bethany, Alex and Ethan Walworth; Rob (Susan) Dailey and Jason (Angie) Dailey; a great-granddaughter, Kristen Walworth; several step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Ford; 2 brothers, Eugene Parker and Roger Parker who died during World War II in the Bataan death march. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21st at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Dean Prentiss officiating. Burial will be in Highland View Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home today (Friday) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Pat's name may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids.
