Novella "Billie" Hicks Brady, age 84 of Hersey, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022. She was born November 9, 1937 in Summersville, WV the daughter of Benjamin A. and Mabel G. (Kauff) Terry. Billie graduated from Summerville High School and soon after moved to Detroit where she married David Hicks on January 28, 1955. They made their home in Detroit and eventually moved to the suburbs settling in Dearborn Heights. Billie later chose to join her family in Central Florida where she lived for 20 years. Fifteen years ago, Billie returned to Michigan, and made her home in Hersey. She loved this home more than any other, with its perfect front porch and a comfortable porch swing. She liked going to church and attended wherever she lived. She especially enjoyed hymns and gospel music. Billie could sing well and she had an appreciation for musical instruments, collecting guitars, dulcimers, fiddles and ukuleles to name a few. Throughout her life Billie loved, owned and rescued dogs; her favorite breed was a cockapoo and she always had one. She is survived by her two children, Christina (Gregory) Metcalf of Wixom, Roger (Beth) Hicks of Hersey; daughter-in-law, Marcy Hicks of Flat Rock; seven grandchildren, Jessica Metcalf of Wixom, Karen (Kristen) Metcalf of Farmington Hills, Crystal (Mike) DeCamillo of Flat Rock, Matthew Hicks of Flat Rock, Brandon Hicks of Flat Rock, Caitlin (Clair) Koppelman of Parma, Sarah (Levi Raab) Hicks of Chase; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Darrell Terry of Ohio and her beloved nieces and nephews. Billie was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert Hicks, two sisters, Wilma Portelli and Linda Terry and two brothers, Cecil and Harold Terry. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m., Friday April 22, 2022 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service; a luncheon will follow the service.
