Norwood "Woody" "Doc" R. Neumann, age 86 of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022 at his home. He was born in Galion, Ohio on January 23, 1936, the son of the late Philip and Faye (Herschner) Neumann. Norwood was a 1954 graduate of Galion High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Delores Kibler, on August 25, 1957. Norwood graduated from Ohio Northern University with a degree in pharmacy. He earned his Masters and PhD in Pharmacology from Purdue University. Norwood began his career as a professor in the School of Pharmacy at Ferris State University in 1962. He took a leave of absence to pursue a veterinarian degree from Michigan State University. Norwood owned and operated Chippewa Lake Veterinary Clinic for five years as a DVM. In 1979, he returned to Ferris to teach and retired in 2004. During this time, Norwood also worked part time for Mecosta County EMS. He was a devout and faithful member for 60 years at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. Norwood enjoyed hunting, fishing, and panning for gold. He also liked to go to yard sales and auctions and collecting antiques. Norwood was a child at heart; yet an accomplished, intelligent, kind, and generous man. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Delores; four children, Steve (Nedra) of Big Rapids, Richard (Cheryl) of Lakeview, David (Brenda Knoll) of Big Rapids, and Cynthia of Big Rapids; five grandchildren, Philip (Jessica) Neumann, Samantha (Eric) McArthur, Ameca (Brad) Gingham, Bonnie Sullivan, and Jeremy Sarns; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and one on the way; and several cousins and extended family. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28th at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Funeral Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Reverend Robert Garrels officiating.
