Norman L. Schippa, age 75 a lifelong resident of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 30, 2007. He was born November 22, 1931, in Big Rapids to Fred and Lenna (Fenstermacher) Schippa. Norm graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1949 and then joined the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged following four years of service during the Korean War. Norm married Marilyn Anger on October 1, 1954. Norm was the owner of Big Rapids Builders for 30 years, employed at Ferris State University in the Surveying and Engineering Department for 10 years, and at Benedict's Manufacturing for 12 years. Norman was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids and was an Honorary Member of Ferris State University's Lambda Sigma National Honor Society for Surveying. Norm is survived by Marilyn, his loving wife of 52 years, two special daughters, Teri (Charles) Losey of Grandville, and Kathi (Dennis) Wasserman of Muskegon, a sister Stella Mae (Richard) VanWestrienen and several nieces and nephews. Norm was especially proud of his four grandsons, Nicholas (Andrea) Jorgensen, Eric (Amanda) Jorgensen, Joshua (Sharon) Wheeler and Jacob Losey, and three great- grandchildren. Besides his parents, Norm was preceded in death by a brother; Fred Schippa. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3rd at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, with Pastor Robert Garrels officiating. The family will greet friends this evening (Monday) at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place with private burial at Pine Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Norm's name may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Big Rapids.
